Cheese Blogroll:
Inaugural Cheese Blog Entry!
2008-06-25
Welcome to my first stab at writing a cheese blog. I am humbly joining an already fabulous community of cheese bloggers. New blog entries will appear every Wednesday for your enjoyment. Now, to avoid being redundant and copying a blog format or subject matter that's already being well covered by another cheese blogger, I have wracked my brain to come up with a fresh idea. What I settled on is this.
I plan to start each blog entry with a cheese-related question and three "random" people's answers to that question. I will then extend my own thoughts and opinions on both the question and the answers given by my three surveys.
What I learned yesterday, however, is that while I love people and consider myself to be pretty friendly, I'm just not very good about approaching strangers to ask cheese-related questions. As a result, I only have one answer to share for this inaugural cheese blog entry. To prevent this from happening again in the future, I will instead talk to friends and friends of friends, and hopefully friends of friends of friends, through email cheese surveys. And, of course, if any of you illustrious CheeseCommunity.com participants would like to answer some of my cheese questions, please feel free to fill out this cheese survey and email it to me. I will update the questions periodically.
Anyway, here's the one symbolic answer I have for this first entry.
What's your favorite type of cheese and why?
Trevor, from Boston, prefers cheddar because, "I like strong flavors."
Cheddar seems to be a universally liked cheese across serious and not-so-serious cheese eaters. The only exception I sometimes come across is kids who are only willing to eat those slices of neon orange american cheese which come in individually wrapped packages. But we'll discount that for the moment!
For the not-so-serious cheese eaters, there are many solid brands of mild to extra sharp cheddar (which Trevor presumably likes). Then, for those of us always looking for the next best cheese, there's a wide range of delicious aged cheddars available which crumble as you cut them and melt in your mouth. I am definitely on the quest for the ultimate cheddar cheese, but don't ever really want to finish it because I'm quite enjoying the journey!
As for my favorite type of cheese, that's a tough one. Let's just say, what's my favorite type of cheese at this particular moment? To answer that, I'm going to have to say Grafton Village cheddar. I obviously have cheddar on the brain right now! This is a nice, Vermont-made cheese which goes perfectly with some hearty bread and apple slices. Yum!
I think I'm going to have to pick some up for dinner tonight. That's the problem with writing a blog about something delicious like cheese. It makes you hungry and may end up being the cause of a serious decline in my well-balanced diet. Oh well. Cheese is SO worth it! If I could live on cheese and chocolate ice cream alone, I'd be a happy girl!
Stay tuned for the next entry when I should have THREE answers to my question: "If you could be a type of cheese, which cheese would you be?" That should be a fun one!
